World Surf League Cabarete
The WSL QS-1000 will be the first major event of its kind on Dominican soil. A qualifying contest is an official event in which surfers from all over the world have a chance to collect points for their ranking; this event rewards 1000 points to the first place winner.
The World Surf League is the governing body for professional surfers and is dedicated to showcasing the world’s best talent in a variety of progressive formats. The World Surf League was originally known as the International Professional Surfing founded by Fred Hemmings and Randy Rarick in 1976. The WSL is the official governing body for elite men’s and women’s World Championship Tours, the Qualifying Series (QS), the Big Wave Tour, the Big Wave Awards, the World Longboard Championships and the World Junior Championships.
From shops to manufacturing, accommodation to real estate, this event will inject a positive economy to the community. Not only that, the WSL Cabarete Pro will promote new opportunities in the surf industry to accommodate the tourism generated.
Surf is a billion dollar industry when lifestyle brands, travel costs, equipment, and fans of the sport are taken into account. With the Dominican Republic investing into being known as a surf destination, more tourism and investments can be anticipated for the country.

Surfing in Dominican Republic
Thanks to the hard work and investments put forth by Carambola Surf House, the Dominican Republic finally has its chance to shine on the world stage for the sport of surfing. When it comes to kiteboarding or windsurfing, Cabarete is known as a top 10 wind sport destination all over the world.
During surf season the waves here can be world class and there are also many breaks along the coasts that are empty which is a rarity for surf destinations. Surf season in Dominican Republic is September-May and conditions are great for learning to surf year round.
The WSL Cabarete Pro event will make the impact the Dominican republic needs to establish itself in Surf Tourism. The goal is to be recognized as a destination like Hawaii or Costa Rica where many travelers go to learn to surf.
Cabarete Surf and Wind Capital of the Dominican Republic
In addition to this official WSL event, Cabarete has recently been named the Surf and Wind capital of the Dominican Republic. Many investors are looking to Cabarete as the new hotspot for water-sport travelers, expecting the Dominican government to continue investing in infrastructure for the city much like is happening in Surf City, El Salvador.
Cabarete Surf Competitions
The official WSL event in Cabarete is scheduled for March 3-6, 2022 and is a North American event that will award 1000 points to the first place winner. Professional Surfers from all over the world and especially from North America will come down to compete and gain as many points as possible for their ranking.
As part of surf culture, when events like this come to a surf town, a wild card is awarded to a local athlete to be given the chance to be seeded beyond the 1st round of the competition and have a better chance of advancing. Carambola Surf House has organized a separate surf competition in order to award this opportunity to the athlete that has beaten all the others.
The Cabarete Pro (Wild Card awarding event) is on January 3rd and 4th at Encuentro Beach. Judges will be flying in from the US for the event. The winner will attain a Wildcard seed for the upcoming WSL event on March 3-6 2022.

RealtorDR has sponsored the WSL Cabarete Pro event because we truly believe the Dominican Republic to be the most beautiful place. We love the culture here and want to support any movements that improve the quality of life and economy of the local community. This World Surf League event in our small town means 3,000 spectators in the 4 days of the event.
An event of this size and importance will bring lots of new business to our area while simultaneously motivating the youth and creating a platform for local surfers to showcase their talents internationally. This is why in addition to sponsoring the WSL event, RealtorDR has also created a Surf Team.
